Excellent book for novice or veteran musician(s), composers, music industry promoters, and ‘fringe’ careers like, audio/video engineering, or productions.
The book contains technical details for all audio interest (PC based studios, etc. but that’s not it’s forte.). It’s more of a study of the roles of various PC & MAC based recording technology within the music industry. e.g. Types of computers (Laptops, Towers, etc) and their roles, What are trends for current and future VST (Virtual Studio Technology). It gives great examples of REAL products (and their pros/cons, from a neutral viewpoint.) allowing you to think of what fits your goals!
He writes of audio technology used all over the globe by artists/producers/A&R people and “how they do it?”.
I am a retired Systems Engineer & former recording & T.V. artist from the 60′s and- I am impressed with Zack’s knowledge of this stuff! The book is great, and easier to read than my review here.
Buy it, don’t borrow it, own a copy! If you are seeking to earn or make ‘in-roads’ in audio recording- even if you do NOT anticipate using PC based studio, the information contained here is an excellent ‘fertile ground’ for growing/transplanting your audio-recording studio and even some techniques.

I knew absolutely nothing about computer based production or stereo equipment. I found this book to be an excellent guide in understanding the equipment and most important the set up. Many beginner guides are too basic. After reviewing a dozen books on the subject, this is one that I found was money well spent. It gave basics, and kept the reader’s intellect in mind.
