I ordered this thinking it might be a good way for my daughter to record her own music and songs that was a little more advanced than the software that came with her computer. What I didn’t realize was that it’s a “How To” book, not the actual software (which is my own fault for not reading the details more carefully). Putting that aside, the book has lots of detailed and illustrated descriptions on how to complete certain tasks with Logic Pro 8. Whether or not these are helpful, I couldn’t tell you because this is a serious book for serious software. If Logic Pro 8 is something you use or have used, this book may be helpful, but to me it reads like a textbook requiring some effort to find the information you’re seeking.

The perfect and only instructional book you’ll need for Logic/Logic Express 8. Well written and illustrated for the average Joe. If you want to get up and running fast this book is a must.

Well folks, I have seen them all, and I mean every book, video, compilation of information on Logic Pro 8 currently in print and produced.
This is without doubt the best written and laid out of all the publications going.
All this and it is in colour as well. I almost did not buy this but this is my most referred to volumn.
I have found for me, an intermediate user, that the information within is clear and detailed and answers many
of the questions that need to be asked to get to a level of comfortability in using this great program.
Recently I brought it to a Music store with some great people who use Logic and Cubase and they took a look and everyone wanted to borrow it. No way I said, buy your own. This is not one you want to lend out as you will never get it back. Buy it now! Get your own! I hope these authors keep on writing great books so that all of us can experience the greatest and totally wonderful program out there. Check it out now. The BEST!

I have been a user of Logic Pro 7.0 and was excited to learn about Apple’s new version of Logic. Comparatively, I have used the Apple Pro Training Series books which I find extremely more user friendly and geared towards training. Logic Pro 8 assumes that the user has a relatively good understanding of HOW to use the interface in Logic (both Pro and Express). I was happy to see the authors address both pieces of software (as Express is the more economical choice for most people).
The book opens straight away explaining regions and interface areas, but it lacks a true tutorial sense. The color pictures are very nice but the layout and breakdown is a little clunky for a book that is a reference or tutorial. I really recommend Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8 for an Apple Certified product and a great teaching method. I found Logic Pro 8 to get too technical too quickly … enough to overwhelm a newbie (even if they have some Garage Band experience).
One thing that is truly worth mentioning is that Apple is no longer selling Logic Pro 8. They have a NEW conglomerate product called “Logic Studio” which includes Logic Pro 9 among other products. The good thing, if you have an older version of Logic Pro (like I do) you can upgrade for $199.
If you own Logic Pro 8 at this point, I assume you are using it already and have hacked your way through it. If that is the case, I recommend the linked book above. If you are looking for a Logic Pro product and don’t own one yet, save your money and invest in Logic Studio — Apple’s latest and greatest.
My review is already old since Apple no longer seems to offer any upgrades to Logic Pro 8.

Most Studio Professionals, both engineers and producers use mainly 1 of 5 software programs for hard disc recording , editing and mixing. (Cubase/Nuendo , Digital Performer , Cakewalk , Pro Tools and Apple’s Logic) This book , `Logic Pro 8-Audio and Music Production’ is dedicated to Logic. While the book now is a bit behind (with Logic pro 9 in use now) it is still a good resource if you are just getting started with Logic, or still have or just acquired Logic 8 . The principles of the program remain basically the same.
Logic is a very complex program and this book will help you cut to the chase and start doing projects quickly. (I would say easily, but Logic is not at first all that `easy’) Apple has deemed this book a `certified apple product’ so I suppose that means Apple thinks it covers their program well.
I would also have to say while there is some good information in this book, I would not go so far as to say it is the definitive resource on Logic. I found the layout of the book to be confusing and disorganized in places and I would have appreciated a more straightforward layout. My preferences aside, if you do find yourself trying to learn Logic Pro 8 (or 9 for that matter) it would be better to have this book, than to not have it.
The book includes a CD with all sorts of audio examples. In this day and age I would think a DVD with on-screen tutorials would have been much better. I would say this: If you have never used Logic before, then this book will be of some help. If you are an experienced Logic user and wanted to polish and deepen your skill sets, perhaps you should investigate other resources.
